Male Cosmetic Eyelid SurgeryBefore & After Male Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

Male Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery can have a profound effect on a man’s overall appearance and provide a new sense of confidence in social and business settings. Overhanging upper eyelid skin and bulging lower eyelid fat pads convey a tired fatigued appearance. Men usually request cosmetic eyelid surgery to not only improve their appearance but to give them a more alert and competitive image.

Blepharoplasty Procedure:Before Male Cosmetic Eyelid SurgeryAfter Male Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

Prior to undergoing male cosmetic eyelid surgery Dr. Kopelman will outline a customized detailed surgical plan that takes into account your unique features. This careful planning will result in an optimal surgical outcome. The surgical goals of a male patient usually differ in some respects from female patients. Men typically want to preserve their masculine appearance. Therefore, in order to avoid effeminizing  the upper eyelid, Dr. Kopelman performs a low upper eyelid crease incision. Preoperative planning will preserve desirable masculine upper eyelid characteristics. Choosing an eyelid expert like Dr. Kopelman can make all the difference in achieving a favorable outcome. In addition, Dr. Kopelman preoperatively measures the dimensions of the upper eyelid in order to achieve symmetry and to determine the exact amount of skin that can be safely removed without compromising your ability to close your eyelids. These careful steps will lead to the best aesthetic and functional result. If bulging fat of the upper eyelid is also present then a precise removal or redistribution of fat will be performed to avoid creating an over-resected hollow  appearance of the upper eyelids. Lower eyelid prolapsed fat can be trimmed through an “invisible” inner lower eyelid incision or the bulging fat is sometimes preserved and transferred into hollow deficient areas. If a significant skin laxity of lower eyelid  is present this can be improved with laser resurfacing.

Q: Will I have bruising and swelling following cosmetic male  eyelid surgery and if so how can I prevent it?

A: At the time of the preoperative consultation Dr. Kopelman and his nursing staff will review your medical history including all medications, supplements and homeopathic drugs that you should avoid prior to surgery. Dr. Kopelman strongly recommends that all anti-coagulant medications be discontinued two weeks prior to your scheduled procedure. The list of drugs to avoid is extensive and we will provide you with that list. A partial list includes aspirin (including baby aspirin), Advil, Motrin, all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, fish oil, vitamin E (which may be contained in your multiple vitamins) and many other drugs and supplements. A complete blood count will also help our staff determine whether you have adequate platelets needed for coagulation.

Q: When will my sutures be removed?

A: The upper eyelid sutures will be removed in five to seven days following surgery and the lower eyelid sutures will absorb by themselves.

Q: Will there be significant pain or nausea during or following the procedure?

A: Patients typically do not experience pain during or after cosmetic male eyelid surgery. Most patients choose to have their procedures performed under monitored “twilight” intravenous anesthesia. Anesthesia will be administered under the supervision of a board certified anesthesiologist.Patients rarely complain of nausea because the intravenous medications are closely titrated. Exact amounts of narcotics are utilized to minimize pain without inducing nausea. Anti-emetic drugs are also given during the procedure to prevent nausea and ensure a smooth recovery. In most cases you will not experience pain or remember the events surrounding the procedure. If mild to moderate discomfort does occur during recovery our registered nurse will administer mild analgesics that will control your discomfort without inducing nausea.Your eyelids will appear natural, brighter, more youthful and your overall appearance will be rejuvenated.
