Abdominal Fat Contouring
Abdominal fat can be contoured with liposuction, and non-invasive fat reducing procedures like UltraShape Power™ and VelaShape 3™ but the gold standard for abdominal fat contouring the “belly” is still liposuction which involves removal of fat below the skin surface.(See the diagram) Once the fat is removed by liposuction or other technology it is gone for good but you must continue to exercise and eat a normal well balanced low carb diet in order to maintain the benefits of abdominal fat recontouring.
Q: What will happen if I regress to my old habits?
A: If you stop exercising and you continue to consume a high caloric diet then fat may accumulate in other areas of the body. Your flanks, buttock, arms or breast may enlarge and it may appear that you are out of proportion.
Q: What other factors contribute to my protruding belly?
A: When you are analyzing your abdominal “bulge” there may be other components that are contributing to the protrusion of your belly.Patients who are overweight commonly have excess fat not only below the skin surface where it is accessible to treatment but may also have deep fat(visceral fat) below the muscle layer surrounding internal organs which cannot be reached with liposuction or non-invasive technology.Dieting and exercise together can reduce internal body fat.
Q: Why does my “stomach” look flabby following pregnancy or weight loss?
A: Women who have been pregnant may have lost the tonicity in their belly due to stretching of the overlying skin and underlying abdominal muscles. This is also true for men and women who have a significant amount of weight loss. These patients also have stretched out skin and abdominal muscle laxity. In order to correct this laxity a “tummy tuck” is necessary to tighten the muscle layer and remove inelastic stretched out skin.
